Maeve and I completed as a team, the 2012 Elk Mountains Grand Traverse. She underwent some foot problems with her Scarpa boots and it slowed us down half way through the event, but we finished. What a grueling race. Due to the lack of snow, we had to put our skis on our packs and hike/run 6-8 miles through the sage brush, cattle trails, gullies, stream crossings in the first part. I believe that was what ended up hurting Maeve's feet.
On a brighter note, the skis performed great. Both the Triglav and the Alaska Pro's are perfect skis for type of event and adventure. They both are torsionally stiff with the bridge technology. Which really came into use with the weight of packs, on changing snow conditions during the downhills. Also gave good edge grip for technical icy traversing and skiing. Both light for efficiency in long tours, even light enough to be able to skin at a fast speed. As a light weight ski, I think the construction is very durable. Also when needed to attach to our packs, you really couldn't feel them on your back. The bases are fast and easy transitions putting on and taking off skins with the tip and tail design. All-in-all, we are very happy with the set-ups.
Congratulations to Karl and Maeve for their accomplishment!
